Maharaja’s principal denies drug charges
Kochi: Maharaja's College Principal Dr Latha Raj on Thursday came out strongly against what she called “the attempts at branding the college as a den of drug peddlers” and said that though there were stray reports of drug use by certain students, the college as a whole was providing a healthy ambience.
In the wake of the attack on three students on Wednesday allegedly by the drug mafia for preventing the sale of drugs among students, Dr Latha Raj said that she was taking strong steps to insulate the college from intrusion by antisocial elements.
“The hospital gate of the college will be closed and other gates will have watchmen from now on. Those without identity cards will not be allowed inside the campus. Those abstaining for 15 days will be removed from the rolls. Night patrolling by the police will be introduced,” she said.
She said that anti-narcotic clubs wiould be formed on the campus by including police and excise officials. A personal counselling cell to identify students using drugs has been arranged, she said.
