AAP mantri tries to raid ‘drug den’

Delhi law minister tries to 'raid' a drug-prostitution ring but police refuses to do his bidding.

New Delhi: Kicking off yet another controversy, Delhi law minister Somnath Bharti began a raging battle when he tried to “raid” an alleged drug-prostitution ring but the police refused to do his bidding, citing the lack of a warrant.

The minister also had to apologise after he revealed the name of the 51-year-old Danish woman who was raped in the heart of New Delhi two days ago.

Late on Wednesday, Bharti and a senior police officer were engaged in a heated exchange in a South Delhi locality.

Kejriwal wants action on SHO

Attacking the police for not cooperating with Delhi law minister Somnath Bharti, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday demanded the suspension of two assistant commissioners and the SHO of Malviya Nagar police station for “refusing” to act against the alleged drugs-sex ring.

Bharti, along with some supporters, had gone to Khirki village, around midnight on Wednesday and had a verbal tussle with an ACP-rank officer after the latter refused to conduct a raid at a building. Mr Bharti alleged that a prostitution and drug racket was being conducted from that building.

“We told the SHO and policemen to arrest them, but they did not pay any heed to us. They told us they cannot raid. Then I asked the reason.

We called the DCP, but he didn’t answer. We had also called the CP, but he said something else,” Bharti claimed.“You are crossing limits. Do not interfere in my work, Minister,” the ACP reportedly told Bharti after the argument.

The minister claimed local residents knew that the house was being used to run the racket. Caught in another controversy, MBharti on Thursday acknowledged he had accidentally named the Danish woman who was gangraped in New Delhi.

A statement issued by Bharti on Wednesday had revealed her identity, which is against the law. On Thursday he said he sent two clarifications minutes after the press release was emailed to the media, in which the woman’s name was removed.
