Nandan, the angry bird Sudhakaran of Jayasurya-starrer 'Punyalan Agarbathis', believes that it was his thick curly hair that gave him the opportunity to be paired with Jayaram.
Nandan has never experimented with his hair except in his latest flick 1983. In 1983, he plays Nivin Pauly’s friend, Navas. “In 1983, I appear in three different get-ups — childhood, youth and middle age. Though I am good in cricket and a die-hard fan of Sachin Tendulkar, in 1983, I always get run-out,” he adds.
Nandan’s acting has not been restricted to commercials and advertisements alone. He had miniscule roles in some hit movies such as 'Thattathin Marayathu', 'Emmanuel', 'Molly Aunty Rocks', and '101 Weddings'.
But Nandan Unni is now serious about doing supporting roles, “I have always been a part of hit movies. I have never aspired to become a hero. I love to do some challenging supporting roles,” he reveals. Actor Siddique is Nandan’s role model.
Nandan made his debut in cinema with a supporting role in Malarvaadi Arts Club directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan and has acted in 13 films so far.
Apart from 1983, he will be seen in 'Ohm Shanthi Oshaana' and 'Vaai Moodi Pesavum' (Shut up And Talk), a Dulquer-Nazriya starrer bilingual. Nandan has pinned great hopes on his role in the bilingual film.
Before coming into cinema, Nandan worked with Lokadharmi Theatre group in Edappally. He has acted in plays such as Karnabhaaram and Oberoi. Theatre offered him the platform to sharpen his acting skills. He has also performed at the Calcutta Rang Mahotsav and drama festival in Delhi.
Nandan has also acted in four short films — Sachin, Torn Knickers, Aval and Sadhachaaram. Sachin was a huge hit among YouTube audience within a month. It is a short film with suspense about a goonda turning into an insurance agent. His latest project is Sadhachaaram. “It deals with problems that single women face in our society.”
Like other actors, Nandan is contemplating a makeover. “I wish to see myself in an all-new look in the coming movies,” he says as he walks away.
