Technopark to generate 45,000 jobs

Technopark to be one of the largest IT parks in India with the commissioning of the Phase-III campus.

Thiruvananthapuram: In a major fillip to the state IT sector, the Technopark has emerged as one of the largest IT parks in India with the commissioning of the Phase-III campus.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who inaugurated the twin towers, named Ganga and Yamuna, through a speech delivered over the communication application, Skype, expressed hope that the new state-of-the-art facility would attract leading IT players to Kerala.

The 1 million sq ft facility on the twin towers, with the special economic zone tag, is expected to generate about 45,000 direct jobs and over 1.5 lakh indirect jobs over a period of time.

The Smart Business Centre at the twin towers has already been occupied by small and medium firms while many major players, like ITC Infotech, are looking for space in the new facility.

With the commissioning of Technopark Phase III, its total built up area has increased to 7.2 million sq ft, spread over 333 acres of land.

“With the completion of ongoing works at various IT parks across the state, the IT infrastructure of the state will be enhanced drastically in the coming years. This would attract massive investments,” said IT Minister P K Kunhalikutty who presided over the inaugural function.

IT secretary P H. Kurian said on the occasion that the target was to provide direct employment to two lakh persons in Technopark by 2020.

Kazhakoottam MLA M A Vaheed who spoke at the inaugural session urged the IT companies in Technopark to contribute towards the overall development of Kazhakoottam.

Technopark Chief Executive Officer K G Girish Babu and IBS group Executive Chairman V K Mathews were also present.

Entrepreneurship development clubs in all colleges

Thiruvananthapuram: In a bid to promote innovations by youngsters, the Technopark Technology Business Incubator Centre, Startup Village and Higher Education department will set up Entrepreneurship Development Clubs in all higher educational institutions in the next couple of months.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who formally launched the programmed over Skype at a function here on Wednesday, said the initiative was part of the efforts to provide an ecosystem conducive for Kerala youths to become entrepreneurs.

Hundreds of students from various higher education institutions who turned up for the event with ideas had an opportunity to interact with IT leders like Startup Village chairman and successful entrepreneur Sanjay Vijayakumar and Technopark Technology Business Incubator registrar M. K C Chandrasekharan Nair.
