Rohini to support Nandan Nilekani full-time

Rohini Nilekani also announces her retirement as chairperson of Pratham Books.

Bangalore: Rohini Nilekani, founder of Pratham Books, a non-profit trust that publishes high-quality books for children at affordable prices and in multiple Indian languages, has announced her retirement from the chairperson’s post.

“I also hope to be able to support Nandan (Nilekani, her husband, who is likely to contest in the coming Lok Sabha elections) in whichever way he might need me to, in his new public journey. So this retirement from Pratham Books has also come at the right time for that," she said.

“It has been a ten year long journey for Pratham Books and we feel proud that we have been able to reach millions of children. As we enter our second decade, it is time to renew ourselves for the future. In the next phase, Pratham Books will foray into digital books, collaborative platforms and even more innovation to open up access to good children's content. As part of this process, it is a good time for a leadership change at the helm,” she said.

She will be succeeded by Suzanne Singh, who is currently the Managing Trustee at Pratham. Singh has spent several years in the advertising industry before moving to the social sector in 2004. Ms Singh took over on January 1.
