Vijayakanth wanted to meet Thirumavalavan

The DMDK appears to be tilting the DMK way for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls if one were to go by the guests.

Chennai: The DMDK appears to be tilting the DMK way for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls if one were to go by the guests the two party leaders had hosted during the last one week.

VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan on Monday called on DMK president M Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence a little over a day after he met and persuaded the DMDK leader to join the “secular alliance led by DMK”.

“Originally, only our party treasurer was planning to meet Vijayakanth to invite him for his family wedding. But, Thiruma joined after the DMDK leader insisted on meeting him,” highly places VCK sources told Deccan Chronicle.

Though Thiruma, emerging out of Karunanidhi’s residence, said that they had discussed the steps to be taken by Teso to persuade India to move a resolution in UN against Sri Lankam, both party sources said the discussion was largely dominated by the Lok Sabha electoral alliance.

“The arrival of the AAP has dented the BJP. While the chances of the saffron party winning substantial numbers of seats seem unlikely, why should Vijayakanth consider going with them?

If they miss the bus now, DMDK could go without any Parliamentary representation for another five years,” a VCK leader said adding that all these details were explained to the actor-politician by Thiruma during their meeting.

Dismissing news about Vijayakanth’s unrealistic demands for alliance as rumours floated by the opposition, which does not want the DMK and DMDK to come together, DMK leaders with the knowledge of today’s meeting said the VCK leaders had also urged Karunanidhi to be equidistant from both national parties, BJP and Congress.

Meanwhile, bishop Ezra Sargunam, who met Vijayakanth twice in a fortnight and publicly urged him to ally with DMK, had on Monday conveyed Captain’s message from to Kalaignar. Both Thiruma and the bishop were learnt to have cheered Karunanidhi as the two shared Vijayakanth’s inclination to go with the DMK this time.
