Techie dies undergoing dental surgery in Aluva
Kochi: The life of a techie hailing from Kalamassery and working in Bangalore was lost in unusual circumstances on Sunday.
Denny Sunny, 26, of Pushpamangalam, Karippayi Road, Rajagiri, South Kalamassery, was admitted to Anwar Memorial Hospital at Aluva for a minor dental surgery. He reportedly developed complications following administration of anaesthesia and was declared brought dead at Medical Trust Hospital, Ernakulam, at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The post-mortem was done at Alappuzha Medical College and the body is kept at the mortuary of Kalamassery government medical college. Aluva police have registered a case for unnatural death and are awaiting the post-mortem report for probe .
“An FIR has been field and the police are yet to name any accused. The opinion of the doctors is also awaited. It is too early to state that death occurred due to anaesthesia or operation. It’s learnt that death occurred after the operation was started,” said B. Harikumar, CI of Aluva.
He said that the hospital does not have any record related to the patient as he was referred to the hospital for the surgery from J.J. Dental clinic, Kalamassery. “What is available is only an OP ticket,” he added.
The relatives of Denny said that the hospital authorities refused to allow Denny’s parents inside the ambulance when he was taken from Anwar Hospital to Medical Trust Hospital.
“Denny, who was working as software engineer with IT firm Impelsys, had come from Bangalore on Sunday morning and he went to the hospital with his parents for surgery around 2 p.m, on being referred from J.J. Dental Clinic. The parents waited outside as he was admitted and around 5.15 p.m. his father Sunny was informed that the condition of Denny was serious.
He then informed some of the relatives and proceeded in his own car with his wife to MTH as he was disallowed to board the ambulance,” said Joseph, a relative. The Anwar Hospital staff did not respond to DC’s efforts to contact them.
Sunny is retired from merchant navy while mother Molly Sunny is a housewife. Denny has a younger brother Binny Sunny who is also in merchant navy. He is sailing now and is expected back on Saturday, after which the funeral will be held.
