Bahuroopi to draw crowds, 75 per cent tickets sold
Mysore: The stage is all set for BaÂhuÂroopi, the week-long national theatre festival of Rangayana in the cultural capital of the state, which will be inaugurated by CM Siddaramaiah today.
Thirteen plays will be staged as part of the fest by 800 artistes in seven languages including KanÂnada, Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Bengali and Telugu. Already, 75 per cent of the tickets have been sold out. RangaÂyana is hosting 20 shows during the fest at its theatres, Bhoomigeetha, SrirÂanga and Vanaranga and can entertain a minimum of 6420 audiences.
Scenes of people returning disappointed after failing to get tickets especially for the evening shows for popular Kannada plays including NammÂolagobba Naajukaiah, written by noted Director, T.N. Seetharam, Mecca Daari written by Athol Fugard and translated by Prasanna, Maaya Seetha written by Shaktibhadra and translated by Jagadeesh Manavarthe and Malayalam Play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare and translated by M.G. Jyothish were common on Monday.
Interestingly atleast 30 percent of these audiences are youth, according to Rangayana sources. “Youth are attracted by the immediate response of live performances,” said Rangayana Director H. Janardhana (Janni).
Rangayana which has been transformed into a colourful world of art with the creative art work of artist H.K. Dwarakanath is all set to embrace art lovers with a series of other events. Atleast 18 movies in Kannada, English, Hindi, Spanish, Romanian, Malayalam, Turkish and German languages will be screened at a film festival at Sri Ranga.
