Fed Cup arrangements leave players in a spot
Kozhikode: Indian player Gouramangi Singh was disappointed with the haphazard arrangements for his team Rangdajied FC and he soon took his protest through his facebook page at odd hours on Sunday.
“Tired and annoyed over longest journey…. And reached at hotel at 3 am in the morning to find out that four players have to share a room, in which there is a double bed and extra two mattresses. It took me to the memory back when we used to represent our state team in youth tournament many years ago….,” he updated his status message.
However, his coach Santosh Kashyap shrugs off the players’ complaint as an obvious complaint. “This is a small town and the people do not have any experience conducting a major tournament. So we need to be patient at times. It happens and everything has been sorted out,” the coach says.
“The players are tired after a long journey. We had to travel for about 24 hours to reach here. But it will not affect our game. We are placed in group of death and we will be concentrating to pull off a couple of upsets. We will be starting our training on Monday,” he added.
Meanwhile, football fans in Manjeri have geared up for the big event. Apart from a few season tickets most of the tickets have been sold out. “The brisk sales show people’s love towards the game. The tickets for the inaugural matches have already been sold out. At the latest, the bank, which deals with the ticket sales, says that only a few season tickets are available. An overall number will be known by tomorrow only,” said Malappuram district football association secretary Mohammed Salim.
“Even if there are some glitches in organising, a player would love to see a houseful stadium. It is indeed a great spectacle. All of my friends and relatives are coming to watch my matches from Palakkad. I am really thrilled to play here,” Mohammedan Sporting club captain and Malayali said Dhanarajan Radha-krishnan,
