Hyderabad: Telangana leaders are studying the applicability to the state of a recent communiqué issued by President Pranab Mukherjee scrapping the Delimitation Commission that had been appointed for the previous round.
The communiqué said that the Election Commission is empowered to make changes in the seats reserved for the SC and ST communities as and when the need arises, without waiting till 2026 when a fresh round of delimitation may be taken up.
As per the 2011 census, Adilabad and Khammam will have one seat less, at nine each.
In Seemandhra, post-bifurcation, the number of seats will change in Vizianagaram (from nine to eight), East Godavari (19 to 18), West Godavari (15 to 14). In Nellore, the number will increase from 10 to 11 seats.
“The situation will get worse if the Assembly polls are held after three to six months, and the NDA comes to power by that time at the Centre,” a senior minister said.
