Nandan Nilekani rallies for voter awareness
Banaglore: It’s not enough if you cast your vote in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, you should also take your friends along with you to the polling booths. This was the message behind Plegde2Vote bicycle rally that was kick started in the city on Sunday. The voter awareness drive will continue over the next couple of weeks.
The campaign, attended by several IT professionals, saw over 80 participants. They went around Koramangala on bicycles to urge people to register themselves in voter lists.
UIDAI chairman Nandan Nilekani, who is speculated to contest from the Bangalore South constituency on a Congress ticket, flagged off the campaign in Koramangala, which is traditionally seen as a low voter percentage area.
He said, “Voters have to become active partners in the electoral process. It does not matter who you vote for, but make it a point to visit the polling booth on the election day."
Jayanagar MLA B.N. Vijayakumar said, “The attendance for the rally is heartening that so many of you want to spread the message. But there is a need to continuously remind the voters over the next couple of weeks that they have a responsibility and you can do that.” The drive also had the support of several cycling communities in Bangalore.
