CCTV helps nab bag-lifter
Chennai: Beware! Big brother is watching you at all places in the city airport. On Saturday night, airport authorities helÂped a passenger get back his missed baggage containing digital camera after checking the CCTV. An airport source said Pradeep Nath Chatterjee, a businessman from West Bengal, was booked on Jet Airways’ 9.30 pm flight to Kolkata on Saturday.
“Before entering the departure hall in the domestic terminal, Chatterjee had spent some time outside the building. While entering the terminal, he left behind one of the bags. After sometime, when he realised that a luggage was missing, he took permission from the CISF and went out to search for the bag. As he could not find it, he immediately complained to the airport manager,” the source added.
The source further said the manager quickly checked the CCTV footage and found that Arasa Kumar (35), a supervisor belonging to a private company in-charge of airport cleaning, had taken the bag.
“The authorities summoned the supervisor and showed him the footage. It clearly showÂed him looking on all sides before picking up the bag and getting into the lift. The person accepted his guilt and returned the bag to the passenger. The authorities handed him over to the police,” the source added.
City airport’s AGM (PR) Harbhajan Singh told DC that there are totally 550 cameras in Chennai airport with 300 in the domestic terminal alone. “While we are the facilitators for home agencies, the basic control of the cameras is with the CISF,” he added.
