Till a few years ago, oversized spectacles were restricted to unpopular geeks who were ostracised for their bad fashion sense. But the tables have turned today and leading Bollywood stars are opting for this look.
Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut were spotted going geeky at their recent public appearances along with Ranveer Singh.
Aishwarya Sakhuja, who sports a geeky look in TV soap Main Na Bhoolungi says that she draws inspiration from the Bollywood ladies. “Spectacles are definitely in. I think the credit goes to Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut for making it a style statement.”
Designer Sai Suman believes that “geeky is the new sexy”. She says, “There was a time when glasses were considered a curse and were never seen as a fashion accessory. But today, they are used as style statements to glam up an ensemble. And we’re talking about over-sized, thick-rimmed ones. Both women and men are taking to this trend and I personally also find them very edgy and stylish.”
Designer Sounia Gohil adds that exchanging the glamorous look for geek chic brings out a new avatar of the celebrity.
