Not just a bestie
Korah was there to suÂpÂÂport John every step of the way. Their friendship was an inspiration to all young film buffs in Kerala. Jacob Gregory, who played Korah in ABCD, is all set to amuse viewers in his new film SalaÂla Mobiles, along with Dulquer Salmaan who plaÂyÂed John.
“My character ‘Binoy’ wiÂll remind everyone that a best friend can make any situation fun, even when disaster strikes,” says GreÂgÂory. Gregory plays DulquÂer Salmaan’s best buddy in Salala Mobiles. According to the actor, reel buddies are now real buddies and he shares an incredible friÂeÂndship with Dulquer SaÂlmaan and Sunny WayÂne. “There is an amazing cheÂmÂistry betwÂeÂen us. We met during the shooting of ABÂCD. Like the saying ‘Birds of a feaÂther, flock together’, we bÂecame buddies very quickly,” smiles the charming actor, who has just finished shooting for Vegam, directed by Anil Kumar.
Being an American MalaÂyÂÂalee, who used to visit KeÂrala only for family gathÂeÂrÂinÂgs, is all excited about his popularity as an actor. “Although I dreamt of acting in films, Korah came as a blessing. I was a little nervous initially. The support and the dedication of the entire crew, especiaÂlly Martin Prakkat helped me to come out of my shell.”
The gentle and shy GreÂgory was a name to reckon amongst Malayalis even before the release of his debut film. As the amiable ‘Girigiri’ in Akkara KazhcÂhÂÂakal, a Malayalam sitcom depicting the lives of MalÂayalis settled in the United States. “Binoy, Korah and GirigÂiri are very different from each other. I do not make much about being pigeÂonholed as a ‘best friend type’. My only aim is to be a part of good films and to give my best to Malayalam cinema,” says Gregory enthusiastically.
What the young actor is particular about is making a fashion statement in his every film. “I want to look different in every film. I am glad that Korah’s style was followed by many.”
His next film 1983 releases next month. “I am not a guy who smiles much so I am always tagged as Jada. But my characters are becoming a part of MalaÂyalee families. That makes me really lucky,” says Gregory politely.
