Usha to join ‘CRY’ for child rights
Thiruvananthapuram: Iconic athlete P.T. Usha has been roped in to support the Child Rights and You (CRY)’s campaign to Vote for Child Rights.
CRY’s campaign is to make child rights an intrinsic aspect of manifestos of all political parties in the country.
Usha said that “it is time for everyone to take a stand and ensure that children in India have a happy and healthy childhood. The children who train with me hail from the most marginalised communities and I realise that such a campaign has the best interests of the child,” she said.
Media advocacy officer Varsha Pillai told Deccan Chronicle that the the campaign included events that range from signing pledges from the general public and getting prominent personalities from across the country to support the campaign. CRY will also organise city-centric events to showcase the current state of child rights in the country, Pillai said.
The campaign called for action to express zero tolerance towards violation of child rights so that every child can be assured of a happy, healthy and creative childhood. That can happen only if children are recognised as rights holders and the people in power remain committed towards providing care.
