Karnataka to constitute special squads to tackle rowdyism
Gulbarga: Strongly asserting their resolve to deal sternly with rowdy elements in the State, the Additional Director General of Police (L&O) M.N. Reddy on Friday stated that steps were afoot to constitute Special Weapons Squads (SWS) of well-trained police personnel at each of the four ranges.
Reddy told mediapersons here that each squad consisting of around 15 personnel drawn from the normal force, would be specially trained to deal with any emergency situation like the recent shootout involving rowdy-sheeter Munna Darbadar. “The select officers would be given arms training besides handling of various types of explosives,” he added.
Extolling the exemplary courage displayed by the three police officers of Gulbarga, especially PSI Mallikarjun Bande, in shooting down the gangster after a long chase, Reddy added that all help was being provided to get the critically injured officer the best treatment. “Bande is still battling for his life and all efforts are on to save him”, he added.
Reddy denied reports that the police had swooped down on the gangster without much preparation. “The movement of Munna had been watched for a long time and we raided his place after confirmation and due preparation,” he said adding a thorough inquiry was being conducted into the incident.
Admitting that rowdyism was on the rise in the state, Reddy added that with a view to send right messages to the criminals nearly 10,000 criminals would be put in the rowdy-sheeters’ all over the state, except Bengaluru.
