'1' gets a father’s cut

The real reason why Mahesh Babu’s latest film 1 Nenokkadine will be a little different.

The Mahesh Babu starrer '1 Nenokkadine' opened to mixed reviews. The experimental film was perceived to be too long and the makers decided to chop it by nearly 20 minutes. Sources say that this was suggested by none other than Krishna, Mahesh Babu’s father.

Krishna had seen the film at a preview theatre and had commented before the media that the film would see huge openings. But according to a source, the actor went straight to Mahesh’s house after that and called the producers there. “He told them that the film was too long and they should cut at least 25 minutes. He even suggested that a few scenes be cut.”

The producers received the same feedback from other sources too. “Yes, we have shortened the film by nearly 20 minutes. Based on the reports that we received, we realised that the film was too long, so we decided to trim it,” says Anil Sunkara, one of the producers of the film. He adds that the trimmed version would be distributed as soon as possible. “You will see the difference,” he adds.

The new version will probably be screened from Sunday morning onwards.

Meanwhile, the producer is happy with the film’s box-office collections on the first day. According to trade pundits, the film grossed nearly Rs 13.17 crore in AP and overall collected more than Rs 20 crore including overseas and other parts of India.

A source added that the makers knew from the beginning that 1 was an experimental film, not meant for creating records. They, however, still believe that director Sukumar has handled the subject well.

Mahesh too is happy knowing that he tried his hand at a new genre.

“We all tried our best and worked very hard. This was an experimental kind of film, so I attempted it. The character gave me a lot of scope to perform and as an actor, this one is good for me,” Mahesh told his close friends, informs a source.
