I don’t like comparisons: Evelyn Sharma
Evelyn Sharma though relatively new to Bollywood has featured in some big projects like 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', 'Nautanki Saala', 'Issaq' and more. Considering she is half-German and does not have a godfather in the industry, that is quite a feat. Evelyn says, “It wasn’t easy, but with hard work and the grace of God it happened. I’m very happy and thankful about how my life has turned out. In Germany we have a TV channel, which shows Bollywood movies. However, people in Germany only know Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, well and now me, since I’m from there.”
Being a foreign actress in Bollywood, the comparisons to Katrina Kaif are inevitable; the actress doesn’t seem too pleased though. She says, “I don’t like to be compared to anyone. I am Evelyn Lakshmi Sharma and there is none like me. However I admire Katrina a lot for her hard work. I think she knows exactly what she wants and that’s why after almost 10 years in Bollywood she has reached the top.”
The actress now looks forward to her next, Yaariyan that hits the screens this week. “In Yaariyan I play the role of Jennette. She’s the beauty and popular girl from the rival school. The hero’s absolute dream girl. Yaariyan is a movie all about your firsts. First love, first kiss, first drama, etc. It was a fun and at times stressful experience. Best of it all is that I found a true friend in Serah Singh. Though we play two popular girls from rival schools in the movie, in real live we love each other to death,” says Evelyn.
Speaking about her contemporaries that she admires, Evelyn reveals, “I admire Kangna. She’s a fighter and a headstrong girl. She knows what she wants and makes her own decisions. She came with nothing and got fame with hard work and dedication.”
The actress has created quite a stir with her bikini shots for the Sunny Sunny song in the same film. Speaking about it she says, “I love to wear a bikini on the beach or at the pool. But I think there are better ways to do styling for a music video than only a bikini. Shorts or a sarong, or maybe a cropped T-shirt look way cuter and are much more comfortable to dance in.”
Though she sported a bikini in the film, the actress adds that she didn’t lose weight and chose to flaunt her curvaceous figure instead. “I am a curvy girl by nature and will never be stick-skinny. On screen it looks much nicer to have a figure anyway, in my humble opinion. If you don’t have hips, how will you wear a sari? It would just slip right off.”
The actress admits that while she may be quite the heartbreaker onscreen she is a hopeless romantic in real life. “I want a house by the beach with a big garden, puppy, a husband and babies — in that order. A man has to be a perfect gentleman to ask me out. I love when a man makes me giggle. And I hate when a stranger hugs you for too long.”
The actress goes on to reveal that her romantic nature influences her dressing sense too. She says, “Since I am a romantic I love my pastel colours and floral prints. What I find hot is a floral silk dress with boots.”
