South Central Railway nets Rs 1 crore in fine for littering
Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) said on Monday it fined as many as 50,668 persons for littering on railway premises and collected Rs 1.02 crore in penalty during the first nine months of the current financial year.
Authorities have intensified checking against littering and spitting at railway premises, according to a statement issued by SCR here.
"During the first nine months of the current financial year (April-December 2013), 50,668 persons were booked for committing the offence of littering, spitting etc on railway premises and an amount of Rs 1.02 crore was realised from them towards penalty," it said.
Of these offenders, 10,486 were fined in Secunderabad division, 4,243 in Hyderabad, 16,458 in Vijayawada, 9,751 in Guntakal, 5,215 in Guntur and 4,515 in Nanded division.
Rules stipulate penalties up to Rs 500 on any person/ passenger found either littering or spitting or urinating or defecating or pasting posters or dumping garbage on railway premises, including stations, the statement added.
