Kerala judge says SIT should seize solar scam accused Saritha's sarees

Solar scam accused blamed for flamboyance in jail as she reportedly bought clothes for Rs 13L.

Kochi: Justice Harun Ul Rasheed of Kerala High Court continued his criticism for the second consecutive day on Friday against solar case accused Saritha S. Nair allegedly leading a flamboyant lifestyle in the jail as an undertrial.

He said that the Special Investigation Team should seize her sarees bought with the scam money.“There was a police report that Saritha purchased apparels worth Rs 13 lakh which she amassed by swindling the public after promising installation of solar panels.
Section 102 of the CrPC empowers police to seize the property in a case related to cheating,” Justice Rasheed said when a petition seeking a CBI probe into the land grab cases involving Salim Raj, former gunman of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, came up before him.
When the counsel for the petitioners pointed out that undue consideration was given by government officials to Salim Raj, the court asked why the accused like Saritha Nair were allowed to live luxurious life in judicial custody.
The government pleader opposed the observation of the court and submitted that the case of Saritha Nair was not related to the case before him. However, the judge said that he was making the observation as a common citizen.
