ACB?wants staff shifted

The Anti-Corruption Bureau director-general on Thursday.

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau director-general on Thursday moved the vacation bench of the AP High Court for permission to relieve repatriated officers who are members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating liquor syndicates in the state.

On April 16, 2012, the court had directed that no SIT officer in the ACB investigating liquor business in Andhra Pradesh, can be transferred without its permission. The interim direction was granted in a Public Interest Litigation by O.M. Debara, a resident of the city, seeking functional autonomy to ACB.

The PIL also urged the court to monitor to monitor the investigation into bribes received by public servants and others from liquor syndicates in the state.

While granting the interim direction, the court said, “In our opinion, it would be appropriate to issue such a direction so that it does not affect the course of investigation, or the morale of the officers who are involved in this somewhat delicate and onerous responsibility.”

The ACB told the court that the investigation into the case was over and charge sheets were also filed against erring officials. The officers who were deputed to the SIT have completed more than three years and they have to repatriate to their parent departments.

After perusing the application, a vacation bench comprising Justice L. Narasimha Reddy and Justice Challa Kodandaram felt that it would be appropriate that the concerned bench which granted the interim direction earlier take a decision on the present application.
