A pack of little white lies
If you are looking for steamy hot confessions on 'Koffee with Karan', then all you are going to get is a thanda cup of badly brewed coffee! The only one who is honest on this show, is the host himself. Yes, so far Aamir Khan made an engaging coffee date coz he had much to spill. But looks like the rest of the Bollywood bratpack has decided to lie blatantly on television. Bollywood stars Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone want the world to believe that they have ‘never dated’ as Indian culture doesn’t allow it. They claim to have plunged into a relationship headlong minus the ‘getting to know each other process’. Priyanka appeared with Shahid Kapoor on this show last season but this time she dismissed Shahid as ‘gandi baat’ and claimed that he was never her boyfriend.
Prasad Bidapa, who has launched many new faces in the fashion industry and has worked closely with a lot of stars says, “Since 90 per cent of their lives are led in the public eye, they feel they deserve 10 per cent of their lives to live privately. I feel that we should respect their personal lives and leave them alone. In the same way that the media never question politicians on their personal lives, they should leave the film stars alone. If we continue to question, all we will hear is lies.”
Yes, we understand the need to maintain a private life but wouldn’t it be more appropriate to say a diplomatic ‘no comments’ instead?. When Karan pointedly asked Deepika thrice about dating Ranveer, she not just denied it but continued doing so even after Karan called her a liar.
Even the guys are suddenly turning coy. Ranveer Singh denies dating Deepika, Ranbir Kapoor’s logic is ridiculous. He feels that by admitting to his relationship he is being disrespectful to the lady as if things don’t work out between them, she will get labelled. Really, for being single and dating a man? Katrina, his girlfriend happily travels with him everywhere but only admits to Ranbir being ‘special’.
Actress Erica Fernandes says, “It is one’s own choice. Being in the public eye puts you in a fix and people are always wanting to know what you are upto. I guess stars do not want to share anything about their personal life because then, there is a question of where is the relationship going and so on and so forth.”
But what about these couples being photographed together? Says Erica, “They do not admit to a relationship because sometimes, it might be just friendship between two people but often, they just have the fear that they might later regret telling it in public.” In the end, she says that it is a price to pay as a celebrity and it is part of the package.
