ONGC men, Chhattisgarh women win Federation Cup Basketball
Ahmedabad: ONGC claimed the men's title while Chhattisgarh won the women's crown in a cliff-hanger at the 28th Federation Cup National Basketball Championship, here today.
ONGC carried their excellent form in the tournament going into the finals where they defeated Tamil Nadu (IOB) 61-53, riding on Amritpal Singh's 24 points.
The women's section final was an enticing affair as Chhattisgarh edged out Maharashtra 77-76 at the YMCA International Centre here.
Both teams were tied at 72 points with two minutes left for regulation time. Chhattisgarh was 77 in the final minute and a three pointer by Renu Maurya got Maharastra to 76.
However, in the dying moments, Maharashtra's Shireen Limaye missed a potential three pointer to hand over the title to Chhattisgarh.
The winning team received prize money of Rs one lakh, while the runners up were awarded Rs 75,000.
Earlier, Mayur Bhat led Services (Army Red) with 17 points to a third-place finish as they beat Punjab (Border Security Force) 72-48.
Kerala women got the better of Delhi by beating them 72-48 to finish third.
