Kerala kicks it up a notch

Kochi: With just five more days for the Federation Cup football tournament to kick off in Kochi and Manjeri, Malayali players in various I-League clubs are in a jubilant mood to showcase their talent.

Though most of the clubs have not revealed their squad members for the tourney, there would be at least 15 I-league players from Kerala, who will be vying in the competition for top honours.

At present, West Bengal giant Mohun Bagan have most number of Malayali players in the squad. Denson Devdasm C.S. Sabeeth, M.P. Sakeer and Wahid Sali make up the Mallu gang.

“We are not sure who is going to play in the Fed Cup. The squad list will be out in two or three days. Anyway, playing in Kerala is a dream of any Malayali player. So we are all excited about the news of the tourney being held in Kerala,” said Wahid Sali.

Another bunch of Malayali players will be up for the United SC. C.K. Vineeth and Asif Kottayil are most likely to play for the club in their matches in Kochi. Meanwhile, defending champions East Bengal will be coming without a Kerala player in their squad.
