MPs to tour Seemandhra

Rajagopal, Harsha Kumar and Sabbam Hari are likely to take up the tour.

Rajahmundry: Several Congress MPs are planning to tour all the 13 districts in the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions in order to mobilise support for Samaikyandhra, probably after Sankranti festival.

Congress MP from Vijayawada Lagadapati Rajagopal hinted that the Seemandhra tour during his visit here on Wednesday to immerse the ashes of his father, who died recently, in Godavari river.

Another Congress MP from Amalapuram G.V. Harsha Kumar confirmed it by saying that all the six Congress MPs who served a No Confidence Motion against the Congress-led UPA government in the Lok Sabha in protest against the Centre’s move to go ahead with the bifurcation of the state to carve out a separate state, accepted the proposal to visit the Seemandhra region.

However, out of the six MPs, three of them, including A. Sai Pratap, Rayapati Sambasiva Rao and Vundavalli Arun Kumar backed off for the time being for varied reasons, including health and other issues.

But, the other three MPs including Rajagopal, Harsha Kumar and Sabbam Hari are likely to take up the tour along with the support from others with similar interest after the festival.

MP Harsha Kumar said, “We will take up the tour to Seemandhra region certainly as there is a need to educate people on several issues involved in the process and seek their support.”

Moreover, Congress sources maintain that the Congress MPs are going to take up the tour to mobilise support for the new political outfit as several Congress leaders and cadre lost their hope on the electoral prospects of the Congress in the ensuing polls, mainly in the state.

As Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy maintains stoic silence on forming a new political outfit, the Congress leaders and cadre are eagerly awaiting any decision on it by him after January 23, the day which is set for sending the AP Reorganisation Bill-2013 back to the Centre after deliberating it in the Assembly and the Council in the state.
