Anantapur: Students under the aegis of All India Students Federation laid siege to collectorate here on Wednesday protesting against government apathy towards long pending issues of students.
As part of call given by the state committee to stage protests at all collectorates, a large number of students gathered from all parts of the district at degree college in Anantapur.
The students took out procession towards collectorate raising slogans against the government indifferent attitude towards education system.
At the main gate of collectorate, the students stopping the employees to enter into the office and blocked the traffic on main road for more than an hour.
Addressing the gathering, AISF district president Ramanjineyulu and secretary Anjineyulu alleged the government was neglecting social welfare hostels and failed to provide minimum facilities for the girls.
“Many hostels were not equipped with water facility and bathrooms. And the girls and other students were facing many problems at the government hostels,” they observed and added that students were falling ill due to unhygienic conditions being witnessed at the hostels.
The AISF leaders demanded the government provide permanent buildings for all the hostels and take action against wardens, who fail to reside at the hostels.
Lashing out at the ministers S. Sailajanath and Parthasarathi for failing to provide minimum facilities for the students at the social welfare hostels, they said “The state government was supporting corporate sector in the education system and permitting large number of corporate institutions instead of strengthening government schools and colleges.”
The AISF threatened dire consequences if the government n’t control the corporate education institutions collecting hefty fees.
Police stopped students from entering into collectorate premises and arrested the leaders on the occasion.
