Chennai: The Madras high court has permitted the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to complete the remaining project of the Tiruchy-Karaikudi NH 2010 bridge work subject to the condition that it should not contravene the undertaking given to the court in respect of preservation of water bodies.
Justice T. Raja alloÂwÂed a batch of petitions froÂm the NHAI while quaÂshing the three ordÂers of the state PWÂD passed in SepÂtember, October and November 2012, refusing ‘no-objection certificate’ to NHAI for the balance of the bridge project.
The judge said in respect of the completed project and the undergoing project, if any deepening of desilting or any other restoration work was required, NHAI should carry it out by incurring the entire expenditure requÂired.
Concurring with the submissions of additional solicitor general P. Wilson, the judge said there was no justification to stall the remaining minor work and, hence, the impugned proceedings have to be quashed.
