BJP?playing on Hindu sentiments?
Mangalore: With parliamentary elections fast approaching, the BJP and Sangh Parivar seem to be playing once again on Hindu sentiments to win back their lost bastion of Dakshina Kannada district.
Providing them fodder is the recent incident of two medical students being forced to indulge in sexual activity while a gang of eight recorded it with the intention of blackmailing them.
As all the accused are Muslims and the girl in the incident, a Hindu, the BJP has taken up cudgels on her behalf and organised a rally on Thursday in protest.
“This is definitely an issue which we will raise during the election. When the government can take strict action against Hindu activists involved in moral policing why is it soft on people from the minority communities who indulge in such crime?” asked a senior BJP leader.
The Sangh Parivar also claims that moral policing by Muslim outfits has increased of late with Hindu boys allegedly being beaten up for speaking to girls from their community.
On Wednesday VHP national president, Praveen Togadia accused the Congress government of harassing Hindu outfit leaders while turning a blind eye to the activities of minority communities.
“The Congress government is booking cases against Hindu leaders for hate speeches. But is it doing so against any maulvi who speaks similarly in a mosque? We condemn the use of IPC section 153 against Hindu leaders for political reasons,” he said, warning that if the Congress party did not mend its ways it could face a strong political backlash that could cost it heavily.
“I would like to tell the Chief Minister that they don’t have the right to judge and hang us. The court has to decide and we are certain it will free us,” he added.
