Abubakar, Keshav set up Merchants’ win

Bangalore: Abubakar and Keshav S produced telling displays with both bat and ball to lead Merchants Cricket Club to a seven-wicket win over Duleep Cricketers in the KSCA Group I, Division IV Super League for the Metro Shield on Tuesday.

Batting first, Duleep Cricketers were bowled out for 118 in 38.3 overs with Keshav picking up two wickets while Bhavesh jain and Abubakar scalped three each.

In reply, Merchants reached their target in just 29.3 overs with Keshav (52 n.o) and Abubakar (41) again causing havoc, this time with the bat, for the opposition.

Bangalore: Karnataka took a stranglehold against Himachal Pradesh in the U-25 Col C.K. Nayudu Trophy on Tuesday. Having extended their first innings total to 602 after resuming at 549 for nine, Karnataka reduced HP to 265 for five at stumps on Day 3. S.L. Verma (121 batting) kept the hosts in the hunt with Kaushik (52 batting) for company.

Earlier, the visitors added 53 runs in the moring with tailenders Aditya B Sagar (61) and K. Hoysala (50) helping themselves to half-centuries.

Elangovan, Prathiba claim titles

Surya Elangovan and Prathiba Prasad Narayan emerged champions in the boys and girls categories respectively in the KTPPA-AITA Under-14 Cham­pionship Series tennis which concluded at TAMS courts here on Tuesday.

Elangovan overpowered Pra­lok Ikkurthy in the bo­ys final 7-6 (4), 6-4 while Pra­thibha beat the third seed Prarthana Prabhakar 6-4, 6-3.

Bengaluru’s Chidananda Murthy and Sujith Kumar BS claimed the national title in the Pro Stock Class after winning the 14th Chander Memorial Rally, the fifth and final round of the FMSCI Indian National TSD Rally Championship over the weekend. The duo, represents Tata Motors and Sidvin.

Karate nationals from Jan. 11

Bengaluru will host the second national open karate championships at the Koramangala Indoor stadium on Jan. 11-12. Korean mats will be used in the tournament along wi­th digital scoreboards and projectors to show transparency. In addition, free self defence courses for women will also be provided.

The Swimming Education Research and Development Foundation will organise an advanced American Swi­mming Coaches Assoc­iation Level-III course conducted by John Leanard (American coach and executive director of ASCA) in association with the Kar­nataka Swimming Ass­o­ciation under the banner of Swimming Feder­ation of India at the City Inst­itute Hall from January 27-29.
