Angry Karunanidhi hints at sacking Alagiri from DMK
Chennai: Apparently trying to pacify DMDK leader Vijayakanth, a peeved DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Tuesday reprimanded his elder son and party south zone organizing secretary M. K. AlaÂgiri by threatening to expel him from the party for his broadside against the actor-politician, who could be a potential ally for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.
Unmindful of the strains between his two sons, Karunanidhi chose to openly caution elder son Alagiri for making remarks against a possible DMK-DMDK tie up in a recent television interview.
Answering a media query about Alagiri’s no holds barred interview, Karunanidhi said that he would expel whoever makÂes unnecessary remarÂks contrary to party stand and thus affect party discipline.
“I make it clear that those who make such unnecessary contrasting remarks and thus try to affect party discipline, whoever they are, disciplinary action will be initiated against them and they will be expelled even from party membership,” he said.
Recalling his recent statement expressing willingness to forge an alliance with Vijayakanth’s DMDK, Karunanidhi distanced himself from Alagiri’s remarks on the issue and further reminded his elder son that only the party executive and general councils and the leadership were authorized to decide on alliance issues.
