FIR filed against inspector who shot 16-year-old in Chennai

The inspector was questioning the boy and the officer's pistol went off 'accidentally'.

Chennai: An FIR was filed on Wednesday against an inspector, whose handgun 'accidentally' went off at a police station here, critically injuring a 16-year old boy, an accused in a theft case.

Police said an FIR under IPC Section 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) has been filed against the Inspector of Neelangarai police station.
Meanwhile, the inquiry by Revenue Divisional Officer Indrajit into the incident is presently underway.
Joint Commissioner (South) Thirugnanam had said on Tuesday that the inspector (crime) was questioning the boy Tha­m­eem Ansari, and the officer's pistol went off "accidentally". The boy is reportedly in a critical condition in a private hospital, where he is being treated for bullet injuries.
