Hyderabad: A 15-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death by another teenager and his friends at Mahboob Colony in Tallagadda on Monday night.

The victim, Mohammed Sameer, fell unconscious after he was beaten up by the assailants in a brawl.

Though the boy was rushed to hospital, doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Tappachabutra police has booked a case against a 16-year-old boy for culpable homicide, and started a probe.

Meanwhile, Sameer’s parents alleged the police let go off other two attackers after succumbing to political pressure.

“Police booked case against only one boy. There were two others, who attacked my son. Cops are not ready to take action against them because of political pressure,” said Sameer’s father Mohd. Shakeel. Police said the brawl began after the victim pelted a small stone at the assailants who were running on the streets.

Meanwhile, police said that the accused’s intention was not to murder the boy. “We suspect he died due to a fist blow.

It was a result of a sudden brawl, and no weapon was used by the attackers. So we booked a case against a minor for culpable homicide under IPC Section 304,” said Tappachabutra inspector Mohd.

Riyazu-ddin adding that the victim had not sustained major external injuries in the attack. Cops said they will take action against the others after post-mortem report.

13-yr-old arrested for raping minor

Bangalore: A 13-year-old boy from Begur has been arrested on charges of kidnapping and raping a nine-year-old girl, while she was returning home from school on January 4.

The exact age of the accused is not clear. But his school records show that he was born on June 11, 2000. He had dropped out of school, City Police Commissioner Raghavendra H. Auradkar said on Tuesday.

“Medical and other tests will reveal his age. Since the accused is a minor, and as per the Juvenile Justice Act, we are restricted from divulging more information on him,” he said.

The accused is a school dropout and a vagabond. He was arrested from Begur, where he stayed. The police initially had no clues and the nine police teams formed to crack the case watched footage from CCTV cameras in the area that got them closer to the accused, Mr Auradkar said.

They obtained vital circumstantial evidence from an abandoned hut, where the girl was raped. They conducted a thorough search and arrested the accused, he said.

The accused acted alone and was not assisted by anyone. He was arrested on Tuesday morning and the police are still interrogating him to find out whether he knew the girl and followed her before committing the crime, he said.

The accused has also been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act. The victim could not provide any information on the accused as she had been anaesthetised, he said. The Electronic City police have registered a case.

The victim, a second standard student, was returning home from school around 12.30 pm on Saturday when she was attacked on the Classic Layout’s Road in Begur.

The accused covered her mouth, dragged her into the hut and raped her. He then allegedly tied a cloth around the girl’s eyes, left her on Begur Main Road and fled from the spot after threatening her with dire consequences if she revealed the rape to anyone.

The girl reached home in a state of complete shock. Her parents, who saw her bleeding from her private parts, rushed her to St John's Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

Con couple looted '6 cr, blew up '5.5 cr

Kochi: The Special Investigation Team probing the solar scam has submitted before Kerala High Court that Saritha and Biju Radhakrishnan swindled '6 crore from various persons and blew up '5.5 crore. Since most of the money was spent for luxury, the settlement of the cases was most unlikely, the police said.

“The hype, sensation and controversies appear to have deterred some of the complainants from going ahead with the matter. So they may compromise on the case even without getting payment,” the SIT submitted.

Perumbavoor DySP K. Harikrishann made the submission after the court asked the state to submit the financial details of the scam.

Saritha spent over '10 lakh for purchasing dress materials and '33 lakh for advertisements of Team Solar. The police recovered 38 sovereigns of gold from her. Saritha also spent '6 lakh for two tour programmes organised for her employees.

The SIT under ADGP South Zone investigated 33 cases and 30 cases were chargesheeted. Three cases are in the final stages of investigation.

The police unearthed 16 bank accounts maintained by the accused and the same were frozen. Most of the looted money was spent for constructing a house and purchase of two cars and other movable properties such as luxury furniture.

No payment has been made in any of the major cases. The acquaintances and relations of the accused, unconnected with the case, coming forward to help the accused cannot be ruled out, the police said.

The police were able to compound only Rs 1 lakh. Many of the complainants are respectable individuals who value their privacy and dignity and who never wanted to get themselves involved in a case like this, the police said.

Rape ‘accused’ to take truth test

Gururaj A. paniyadi

Mangalore: The three ‘accused’ in the Saujanya rape and murder case have reportedly decided to resort to divine help to prove their innocence.

Saujanya, a II PUC student at SDM College, Ujire was found murdered near her house on October 10, 2012.

Though Santhosh Rao was arrested in connection with the incident, activists and family members of Saujanya suspected the involvement of Dheeraj Kella, Uday Jain and Mallik Jain.

Despite a CID investigation giving a clean chit to the three individuals, activists have been continuing to allege that they are involved and have been demanding that the case be handed over to CBI.

Now to prove that they are clean, the three have decided to make a vow on their innocence before the "Nalwar Daiwas" (four good spirits) at Kanathoor Sri Nalwar Daiwastana (in Kasargod) on January 19. Through the temple, they have also invited those making allegations against them to attend the ‘truth test.’

Based on the plea of the three, as per the tradition of the temple, the authorities have sent a letter to the family members of Saujanya (her father, mother and uncle) and two activists asking them to attend the truth test on January 19.

DC photo - The three ‘accused’ at the shrine on Jan. 2. They plan to revisit the Kanathoor shrine on January 19.

The "Nalwar Daiwas," of Kanathoor Sri Nalwar Daiwastana are also considered a parallel court which solves the tussle between two parties. Thousands of people come here every year to solve their problems.

Thus taking an oath in front of the Daiwas by touching the steps in front of the temple is like taking an oath before God. People are scared to lie. Thus any oath taken here is deemed to be true, said sources.

The belief is that if anybody dares to lie, the liar and his family will attract the wrath of God.

"Activists and family members of Saujanya have been making allegations against us since several months, we are unable to bear it.

Though we have been asking them for proof, they are silent. So we decided to go for this test," Dheeraj Kella told Deccan Chronicle.
