‘Duniya’ at his talented feet

This successful Tollywood star bares all in this interview and talks about what went wrong in his marriage.

He has broken most of his bones while performing fight sequences in films. It happened again during the shoot of his upcoming release 'Shivajinagar' where he starred opposite Parul Yadav. Duniya Vijay, who dares to defy death when it comes to doing stunts, says he can handle any pressure but not when someone hurts his ‘heart.’ He has every reason to say so, as his wife of 14 years, Nagarathna accused him over various ‘issues’ which finally resulted in the actor seeking a divorce.

“I have come a long way and more importantly, the hard way. Early on, I had to struggle for even half-a-cup of tea. Now, I value every relationship and the people behind my success. What I am today is because of them. Thankfully, as I do my own stunts, any injuries during shoots have healed well. I do not hesitate to attempt any stunt again. But when it comes to “emotional” injuries” I still get hurt,” says Vijay.

He will be also seen in a unique project taken up by an all-women team with a real subject titled Ring Road Shubha. Vijay says, “It was great working in 'Ring Road Shubha'. I admire the entire team, who has done an excellent job. Though the police department is known for rampant corruption, there are several honest cops in the department and my character in the film is one such honest cop, who goes all out to nail the culprit. The film is based on a real life incident. It was one of the first cases wherein an SMS from a mobile phone was traced and analysed to crack a case.”

He adds, “It has a great message for those corrupt police officials, who think that they can get away with it.”

In 'Simhadri', Duniya Vijay is acting alongside Soundarya Jayamala, in a different avatar. “It is going to be a different film for me and my fans. The film explores a brother and sister relationship. It has an element of relationships that showcases the present generation, who are more inclined towards Westernisation.”

His maiden home production Jayammanna Maga, was one of the biggest hits in 2013 and the actor says that he is keen on producing another similar film. But for now, he has a series of commitments with other banners like the one he is doing for a close friend in Jackson. This film is about adolescent love, wherein a boy does everything for love. “It talks about strange characters who do not understand good or bad when in love. I will be seen in a role like the one I played in Jangli opposite to Aindrita Ray,” he adds. Another movie where he shows his prowess is Cobra. “The film deals with two kinds of offenders — habitual and accidental ones. Such people need support to get back to ordinary life but are labelled as criminals and sadly, they go on to become one.”
