TASMAC sales exceed target, surpass last year’s by several crores on New Year eve
Chennai: Tipplers in the state have once again exceeded the targets set for them during this New Year celebrations as TASMAC sales during the dawn of 2014 exceeded the sales recorded during the same time last year by several crore rupees.
Senior TASMAC officials told this newspaper that their outlets across the state recorded sales worth Rs 79.95 crore on December 31, 2012, and Rs 69.94 crore on January 1, 2013, while the liquor sales reached Rs 82.52 crore on December 31, 2013, and additional Rs 71.55 crore on January 1, 2014.
“We had hoped that the sales during New Year celebrations this year would reach the sales recorded last year but it exceeded our expectations and several TASMAC outlets had run out of some of the most preferred brands of IMFL,” a TASMAC official said.
The officials pointed out that a total 1.7 lakh cases of IMFL and 86,000 cases of beer had been sold on December 31.
“The sales dipped slightly on January 1 with 1.5 lakh cases of IMFL and 68,000 cases of beer sold on the New Year day,” the official said.
The state has been witnessing a steady rise in liquor sales during New Year, Deepavali and other festival days indicating a changing trend in the way festivals are celebrated in TN.
The handful of premium liquor outlets launched at Koyambedu, Velachery and other parts of the city drew huge crowds during last few days.
