Stir hits lawyers’ livelihood
Rajahmundry: The Samaikyandhra stir, which has been continuing for the last 150 days, hit the legal fraternity in general, and juniors in that profession, in particular.
With the stir extended up to January 22, lawyers and advocates are worried over making both ends meet.
They are facing financial trouble in meeting daily expenses as there has been no income for the last three months and there is no help from the respective Bar Associations.
In East Godavari district, there are about 5,000 junior lawyers associated with seniors and some of these are beginners.
The 5,000 lawyers include those from courts at Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Amalapuram, Anaparty, Alamuru, Mummidivaram, Peddapuram, Pithapuram, Prathipadu, Razole and Tuni.
The juniors generally assist their seniors in the day-to-day court works and the clients give them some money when their cases come up for hearing.
In some cases, they help other advocates from outstation and take some honorarium.
But as the courts have not been functioning for the last few months, the juniors are not able to pay school fee of their kids, pay house rents and meet other expenses.
They are worried that their situation would worsen in the coming days if the stir continues.
