Ramesh Chennithala asks AICC for new PCC chief
Thiruvananthapuram: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has shot off a letter to the high command seeking a replacement for him as PCC chief.
He told DC that there was no need to have a deputy as long as the AICC doesn’t ask him to hand over charge of the party.
In his letter, Chennithala requested the high command to appoint a new president at the earliest.
He visited NSS headquarters at Perunna coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mannathu Padmanabhan and later visited Sivagiri mutt as well.
Sources close to Chennithala told DC that he prefers to have Speaker G. Karthikeyan as his successor.
“Apart from Karthikeyan, senior Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran’s name is also doing the rounds. Union Minister of State for Home Mullapally Ramachandran is not a popular candidate,” said an ‘I’ group leader.
If Karthikeyan is selected for the post, a new Speaker will also have to be appointed. Deputy Speaker N. Sakthan may be chosen as Speaker so as to appease the Nadar community.
On Friday, KPCC general secretaries Thampanoor Ravi and Sooranad Rajasekharan will chart out the KPCC’s next one week’s programme.
At present, ‘I’ group ministers Adoor Prakash and V.S. Sivakumar, Joseph Vazhakkan, MLA, Sooranad Rajasekharan and K. P. Anil Kumar and KPCC spokesperson Pandalam Sudhakaran are Chennithala’s confidants.
