Gorantla Buchaiah Choudhary attacked by housing beneficiaries
Rajahmundry: Row over allotment of housing units under Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme led to the disgruntled beneficiaries attacking Telugu Desam ex-minister and party state general secretary Gorantla Buchaiah Choudhary here on Thursday.
They pelted stones and hurled footwear on him forcing him to flee the venue when he tried to disrupt the distribution of housing units here on Thursday, alleging irregularities in allotment of the units.
Earlier, Gorantla had a heated argument with Congress legislator Routhu Surya Prakasa Rao over violation of protocol.
He faulted the authorities for ignoring protocol by not calling the Rajahmundry rural MLA Chandana Ramesh (TD).
The AP Housing Development Corporation has taken up an urban housing project under IHSDP in 27 acres to take up construction of 2,256 housing units and out of them 2,147 units were completed.
The project was taken up in 2007-08 and the beneficiaries paid their share of contribution out of Rs 60,000 over a period.
The housing authorities have decided to allot the houses through a draw of lot to the beneficiaries who paid the amount. Accordingly, a large number of beneficiaries gathered at Ramakrishna theatre to get the allocation.
Congress MLA Routhu Surya Prakasa Rao along with his supporters arrived there and the officials prepared chits carrying the name of the beneficiaries on one side and the flat number on other side.
Meanwhile, TD state general secretary Gorantla, with his supporters, arrived at the place and raised objection to the allotment. He said some sites were allotted to Congress sympathisers.
