Errors in records hit job-seekers

Krishnagiri district employment exchange not corrected the data errors despite HC directions.

Chennai: The Krishnagiri district employment exchange, which recorded incorrect data regarding many applicants, has not corrected the errors despite a direction from the Madras high court last November asking the employment exchange ‘to restore’ the right entries in its records in two months’ time.

This delay has resulted in several graduates and other qualified applicants remaining unemployed. One of the applicants M. Christopher moved the high court for help in early 2013. He mentioned in his petition that his status was ‘differently abled-ortho’, but the officer’s entry was ‘mentally challenged’. This mistake in the employment exchange records has debarred him from applying for any job.
The deadline for the corrections to be made is January 5, and like Christopher, there are many applicants who registered with the Krishnagiri employment exchange and are hoping the changes are made so that they can go ahead and apply for jobs.

A senior official in the Directorate of Employment and Training Institute said, “We will take immediate action. We have started uploading all the information online. Since we have to manage huge amounts of data, there are possibilities of errors.”
