Garnish key to drinking experience
While the ingredients of a cocktail definitely determine how it will turn out, it is the garnish that adds that final finish, the touch of flair. An innovative garnish can take your drink from the ordinary to a touch above, and a little bit of thought can help you put together some great garnishes.
For instance, fruit — candied and fresh — makes for a colourful garnish. Simply pierce a few berries or pieces or cut fruit (like pineapple) or a wedge of an orange and stick it in your cocktail glass.
You can also freeze dried fruit or flowers in an ice cube tray with some water. Rose petals frozen in ice cubes make for a delightful addition to a cocktail. You can also thinly slice an exotic fruit like a kiwi (make sure it’s a firm one) or a star-fruit to insert on the rim of your glass. Traditional garnishes like a curled rind of orange or lime, a sprig of mint or celery or funny straws can also be used.
