Dubai rings in the New Year with Rahman’s music

The Dubai event has a special Indian connection to it.

The city of Dubai ushered in the New Year with a fireworks spectacle that has gone on to break the Guinness World Records for the largest fireworks display ever — covering a distance of over 94 km of the city’s seafront and incorporating some of Dubai’s top landmarks, including the Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab.

The event, which took place close to midnight on New Year’s Eve, has a special Indian connection to it — none other than double Oscar winning music composer A.R.Rahman. The fireworks display was accompanied by music and the opening track was the introduction music from Oruvan Oruvan, from the Rajinikanth-starrer Muthu (composed by ARR). An ecstatic Rahman told DC, “I am extremely honoured and thrilled that my music was chosen to be a part of such a magnificent spectacle that the world witnessed on a special occasion like ushering in the New Year. It just goes to show that music has no age or language and truly transcends all boundaries. It is indeed a privilege.”
