Kerala squanders advantage

Hyderabad: Youngster G.H. Vihari stroked 145 as Hyderabad built a solid lead of 266 on the third day of their Ranji Trophy Group ‘C’ match against Kerala at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Resuming at 46 for 1 with a deficit of 17 runs in the second innings, Hyderabad ended Day Three at a formidable 329 for 5.

Vihari’s knock consumed 296 deliveries and contained 16 hits to the fence. For the fourth wicket, Vihari and allrounder Ahmed Quadri added 134 runs. Quadri was the fourth Hyderabad wicket to fall when he made 74. His knock contained 10 boundaries.

Even if Hyderabad declare overnight, Kerala will have to go hell-for-leather on a fourth day pitch for the all-important outright victory. As things stand right now, a draw seems the more likely scenario.

Brief scores: Hyderabad 201 7 329/5 in 106 overs (G.H. Vihari 145 (296b, 16x4), Ahmed Quadri 74, Amol Shinde batting 48, Nizar Niyaz, 3/62) vs Kerala 264.
