Threat on Facebook leads to businessman’s arrest

Police arrests a Chennai-based businessman for taunting an advocate, on his FB page.

Chennai: The city police on Tuesday night held a Chennai-based businessman for taunting an advocate, son of a retired judge, on his Facebook page.

Mohanraj, 37, who runs a lathe workshop in Kosapet junction in Washermenpet, was arrested after he posted negative comments about Srinivasan, 29, a high court lawyer, residing on Narayanan Street in Nungambakkam.

According to the police, complainant Srinivasan had uploaded a picture of his dog on Facebook after it won a few events at an exhibition held at Madurai three months ago.

Mohanraj started posting objectionable comments to such posts, and continued doing so in spite of courteous replies from the advocate.

Subsequently, Mohanraj had issued threats with dire consequences to Srinivasan, following which he lodged a complaint with the Nungambakkam police on November 28. A CSR was given and further enquiries proved that Mohanraj had posted the comments after confirming his Internet Protocol (IP) address with the service provider.

Srinivasan and Mohanraj are dog-breeders, the police pointed out.

The Nungambakkam police registered cases under sections 66 (A), (B), (C) of Information Technology Act, 2000, and section 506 (I) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and arrested the businessman on Tuesday night and remanded him in custody.
