Guntur: As many as nine Telugu Desam activists and six Congress workers were injured while a shop, a house and some vehicles were damaged in a clash that erupted during New Year celebrations in Nagavaram village of Krosuru mandal on Tuesday night.
The violence sparked off after a tractor, belonging to a Congress activist, hit the TD activists who were celebrating the New Year.
The dispute that followed soon led to the two groups hurling stones and bottles at each other.
Besides the 15 persons injured, three autorickshaws, four bikes and a shop, and the windows of a house were damaged.
The TD activists were seriously injured and were shifted to the Sattenapalli government hospital for treatment.
The Congress activists sustained minor injuries. Section 144 has been imposed and a police post has been set up in Nagavaram as a precautionary measure.
Additional police forces have been put on standby. Police registered cases against 16 persons.
