6 New Year revellers die in mishaps
Chennai: New Year eve revelry claimed six lives in the city, including that of an engineering student and a private security guard, who was fatally knocked down by a mini van on Nelson Manikkam Road early Wednesday.
Engineering student Ramprasad, 19, was killed when his two- wheeler hit a truck on SardarPatel Road near Gandhi Mandapam at around 11pm Tuesday while he was on his way to Besant Nagar with his friend Saravanan, 19.
A private firm employee, Arun kumar, 17, was on his way to New Year eve celebrations with two friends riding pillion, when he rammed his bike into a truck on the Kundrathur service road and died on the spot.
Another private firm employee, Anbu Selvam, 24, was killed after a mini truck hit his two-wheeler from behind near the Velappan Chavadi signal.
Construction worker, Balathandayuthapani (28) died after his bike skid on the Tambaram-Maduravoyal Bypass road while he was on his way to Ambattur with two friends.
The trio had partied and were reportedly drunk.
A cook in a hotel in Sowcarpet, Ram NarayaÂnan, 42, was killed after his bike was hit by a tipper lorry near Basin Bridge.
Meanwhile, security guard, Thangalan, (70) was knocked down by a van while walking on Nelson Manikkam Road early Wednesday with a friend.
