Rev it up, Maini!

Bangalore: American statesman Colin Powel, once said, “A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.”

Bengaluru boy Arjun Maini may not have read Powell’s famous quote, but his achievements this year surely show he’s following it to the T.

Introduced to motor sport by his father Gautam Maini, the 15-year-old has gone from strength to strength since he burst onto the scene by winning the “One in a billion” contest and entering the Sahara Force India Formula One academy two years ago.

Racing for the Mainis is a family affair, with Gautam a former racer himself and Arjun’s younger brother Kush too is a fast lane addict.

“I enjoyed watching my dad when he raced and he introduced me to go karting. It enjoyed it a lot and moved on to racing. Since then my parents have gone out of their way to support my passion,” said the youngster.

The year 2013 has been a landmark one for the budding speedster finishing second in the J.K Tyres India Series and winning the Asia Cup Super Six championship.

“It’s been a great year. I’ve loved every moment of it. I started the year karting in Europe and moved on to single seater cars (formula BMW) JK Racing India series and the Asia Cup Series.

At the end of the year, I managed to finish second in the Championship in the JK Racing India series and I won the Asia Cup Super Six championship. I think it’s been a good start to the new part of my career.

I was extremely happy when I picked up 15 trophies including two championship trophies in just 10 days,” said Maini speaking about the season gone by.

While he has not finalised his plan for 2014, Maini is eager to learn and improve.

“I will look forward to further hone my skills. My biggest goal is to improve in the next year,” opined Maini.

With his eyes on the Mecca of motor sports; Formula One, Maini is trudging along the proverbial trail of sacrifices and going by his achievements in the past year, he is sure on the high speed track to success.
