Kerala remain on top after second day in Hyderabad

Hyderabad conceded a first innings lead despite triggering a mini-collapse against Kerala in a Ranji Trophy match.

Hyderabad: After an ignominious opening day, hosts Hyderabad conceded a first innings lead despite triggering a mini-collapse against Kerala on the second day of their Group ‘C’ Ranji Trophy match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium here.

M. Ravi Kiran bagged 4 for 81, and spinner Mehdi Hassan scalped 3 for 57 as Hyderabad — who had made only 201 in their first innings — went into damage control mode and limited Kerala to 264.

For Kerala, P. Prashanth made 106 while Robert Fernandez scored 78.

But the visitors will still fancy their chances of winning the match after leaving Hyderabad at 46 for 1 by the end of the day’s play.

Kerala, resuming the day from 45 for 3, suffered an early shock when left-arm quick Anwar Khan trapped captain Sachin Baby for 10. They had added only three runs to their overnight tally by then.

Kerala lost three wickets in the space of six runs with the score on 88, but newcomer Prashanth and Fernandez steadied the ship with a 151-run stand.
