RTA vows to continue to keep private travels on a tight leash
Vijayawada: Road Transport Authority officials on Tuesday vowed to continue their raids on unauthorised plying of private travel buses to various destinations in the state.
The RTA officials conducted raids on several unauthorised travel agents in the city and seized records.
Speaking to this newspaper, deputy transport commissioner Ch. Sivalingaiah said that raids were conducted on 30 travel agents on Monday night and their records seized as none of the agents had obtained licences.
He said that the travel agents should obtain licences under Section 93 of Motor Vehicles Act.
The DTC said as per Section 297 A of the AP Motor Vehicle Act, the agents should maintain a register of the trip sheet and passengers’ list.
He said that two buses coming from other places were seized on Monday night.
Sivalingaiah said that the erring agents would be chargesheeted and produced in court within three days.
Meanwhile, journalists staged a protest at the sub-collector's office here on Tuesday, seeking action against the staff of a private travel firm who attacked scribes of an electronic media house late on Monday night. The scribes were covering the raids on the private travel agencies by the RTA officials .
Later the journalists submitted a memorandum to Vijyawada commissioner of police B. Srinivasulu.
