Chennai: Keeping in mind huge crowds that will throng Marina beach and Elliots beach ahead of New Year, Chennai city police have announced traffic diversions to ensure an accident free New Year’s Eve.
The diversions will be effective from 8 pm on Dec. 31 and will remain in force until 2 am on Jan. 1, an official release said.
All entry roads leading to Marina beach Foreshore road will be barricaded and vehicles inside the Foreshore road will be allowed exit to Kamarajar Salai only until 8 pm, after which they have to go towards lighthouse and use the Notchikuppam loop road to reach Santhome high road.
All approach roads towards Kamarajar Salai, Lloyds Road, Besant Road, Ayodhya Nagar, Sunguvar Street, Bharathi Salai, Wallajah Road, Swami Sivananda Salai junctions will be barricaded to prevent vehicles entering into Kamarajar Salai from 8 pm onwards. Vehicles will not be allowed on Kamarajar Salai on Gandhi Statue -War Memorial stretch from 8 pm to 2am.
Vehicles plying from Wallajah Road and RBI North subway towards War Memorial will be diverted towards NSC Bose Road to reach EVR Salai and Anna Salai.
Vehicles coming from RK Salai, Wallajah Road, Bharathi Salai, Lloyds Road, Dr Besant Road, Adams Road, Flagstaff Road, War Memorial will not be allowed from 8 pm towards Kamarajar Salai and commuters can park their vehicles in the designated parking places.
The vehicles coming from Parrys to Adyar will be diverted towards NSC Bose Road, EVR Salai, Wellington, GP Road, Royapettah High Road, Luz junction, RK Mutt Road to reach their destination.
Vehicles coming from Adyar towards Gandhi statue will be diverted at Karaneeswarer Koil St and Santhome High road junction towards Karaneeswarer Koil junction to take the route via Natesan Road, Ice House Junction, Triplicane High Road, Wallajah Road to reach Anna Salai, the release added.
Similarly, in Besant Nagar, roads will be blocked on 6th Avenue and 5th Avenue junction, 4th Main road junction, 3rd Main road junction, 16th cross street junction and vehicles will not be allowed from 7th Avenue road to Mahatma Gandhi road junction towards Velankanni Church.
