Ban on RTC strike for 6 months

Hyderabad: The state government on Monday passed orders prohibiting strike in the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation for six months.
The order came in the wake of eight of APSRTC’s unions serving a strike notice to the management. The unions said they would go on an indefinite strike from January 7.

With the strike notice from all the eight unions threatening to derail the public transport system during the Sankranti season, APSRTC has now been brought under the Essential Services category by the order.

“The government considered that in the public interest, it is necessary and expedient to prohibit strikes in any service under the APSRTC for a period of six months. Therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the AP Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1971 (AP Act 20 of 1971), the government prohibits strikes under the APSRTC constituted under the RTC Act, 1950 for six months with immediate effect,” read the order.
