Know them
Two friends, Purvi Shetty, a senior consultant at Brand-Comm and Meera Ganapathi, a senior creative partner, Creativeland Asia started a blog with the idea of sharing how to replicate ‘ridiculously expensive’ accessories and make them at home instead. But their blog, The Two Material Girls, has created such a stir amongst young girls, that today they have over 4,000 likes on Facebook with eager followers waiting with bated breath for the next Do It Yourself (DIY) project. Meera states, “Our blog works on the philosophy, ‘Humph! I could make that at home’,”
The Year That Was
Purvi reveals the biggest lesson, that the year 2013 taught them, was time-management. She also adds, “It also taught us how to make beautiful installations (read tea cups, fairy lights and ribbons) for our shop display. Ha-ha! And, it taught us whatsapp is the worst place to have a fight.” These ladies posted close to 150 DIY ideas in the last one year.
The Year ahead
The girls have big plans for their store and blog in the coming year. They are also looking at starting a video format online. “We may bring some baking tips to the table in 2014. We haven’t ventured in DIY recipes yet and this should be a new, fun thing to look forward to,” smiles Meera.
Their life’s emblem
A Flower. “The one like our logo which is a pretty felt handmade flower with buttons. It suits us perfectly,” smiles Purvi.
The High
They launched The Whimsy Store that houses their pretty DIY projects. “It is for people who don’t have the time to make things on their own,” says Purvi.
The Low
While Purvi says running a store from two different cities has been particularly hard on them, Meera, adds that the stress of coming up with new and innovative ideas is weighing her down.
